| Coach's Report: |
The 2008 season saw Doncaster field two Tackers teams, with 30 new players wearing the DJFC colours for the first time. Tackers Blue generally played quite well throughout the year, with all of the players improving as the season went on. Although we won only a couple of games, I thought we were very competitive in most matches and could quite easily have won five or more games for the year. The core of players from last season had been split between the two teams for this season, leaving both teams a little short on experience. The new players, however, acquitted themselves very well and improved tremendously as the season went on.
Our kids were fantastic to coach and are very eager to improve their football skills. Our experienced players from last year continued their development and led the side very well. They were ably supported by the new players who were enthusiastic and made the transition from Auskick to Tackers football very easily. Obviously, all of the players develop at different rates, however the most pleasing aspect of coaching this year has been the enormous improvement made by all players during the season.
I would like to thank Lisa for her fantastic efforts as team manager for the year. Thanks also to our two umpires for the season in Mark “Pretty Boy” Kleiman and Steve O’Gorman. I would also like to thank the parents that have helped both at training and on match days during the year, particularly John Iozzi, The Chirgwins, Julie Corfield, Bob Armstrong, Sam Myott, Frank Bianco, and Phil Davis. The kids really get a kick out of their parents being around so please try to keep involved with their sport. Thanks also to Maurice for his assistance and support during the season. Maurice did a great job with Tackers White and all of the players in both teams should be proud of their efforts during the season.
Good luck to the players that have another year of Tackers and those who are making the step up to Under 10’s. I am sure if you keep working on your skills and listening to your coaches that you will continue improving as footballers and, most importantly, keep enjoying your football.
Go Cats !!
